American Breast Cancer Foundation
The American Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) is the national 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to providing education and direct financial assistance to uninsured and underinsured individuals for diagnostic tests to aid in the early diagnosis, treatment and survival of breast cancer. ABCF's Key to Life Breast Cancer Assistance Program provides patients financial assistance for support items such as emergency treatment, wigs, prostheses and medications. To support patients and their families critical information and referral services are provided. To best serve all populations throughout the United States, Spanish speaking staff and third party translation services are available to accommodate most languages. ABCF supports research for innovative diagnostic, treatment and patient support methods through leading medical institutions.
"I have been a nurse practitioner in Southwest Virginia for many years and know first hand the dire need of health care in the communities that I serve in the rural coal communities of Appalachia. I just want to say thank you for your valuable commitment. Many organizations were devoted to education and other aspects of care, but none offered what was really needed - financial assistance to pay for mammograms. I feel that our partnership with the American Breast Cancer Foundation has significantly improved access to health care for Southwest Virginia residents, access that has traditionally been difficult, sometimes impossible given the numerous access barriers facing their communities such as economic depression, rural isolation, inadequate transportation routes and service."
— Teresa Gardner, Executive Director, St. Mary's Health Wagon, Wise, Virginia
"I would like to thank the American Breast Cancer Foundation for making it possible for uninsured and underinsured women to receive diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. It is clear to me as a surgeon doing breast surgery that the largest cancers are found in women who have not been able to afford physician visits or mammograms."
— Edward T. Weinshelbaum, M.D., Florida
"I was in a car accident last year and because I could not immediately return to work I lost my job and also my health benefits. It has been a hard year and I am truly amazed that someone reached out to help me. So, all I can do is tell you how much it means to me that the American Breast Cancer Foundation responded as it did."
— Candace B.
"It was my follow up exam. I was scared because in earlier exams, things were spotted. But the staff made me feel very comfortable. Thank God that there are organizations like this for women. By me being disabled, there is no way that I could have paid for this. God bless your organization and anyone and everyone involved."
— Joanie C., Henderson, KY
"I would like to thank this program for the help I have received. I am raising two kids on my own. I lost my husband to Michael Landon Cancer six years ago so I know how important early detection is."
— Stacie C.
"At a time when my mom was diagnosed and I had a questionable mammogram, I had to decide due to lack of insurance as to whether to get it done or not. Your assistance granted me the peace of mind that I received from a non cancer diagnosis after the second mammogram. Thank you so much!"
